I firmly believe if you want to come to this great country you better learn English. When my grandparents came here from Mexico they had to learn English to survive.

If understanding written and/or spoken English is a legitimate requirement of the job, then it's a legitimate policy for migrant, immigrant or any other employee in the U.S.
If there is no job requirement to speak and/or write English, then a policy to that effect hurts the employer as well as the employee. The employer might as well require migrant workers to play contract bridge.
English "only" would fail for me - I'm U.S. born, spoke English growing up, but learned six other languages from ages 12-52. I'm 58 today, and have worked in some 30 countries. I was often required to speak the language of the country in addition to English; nobody ever used an "Italian only" with me.

I'm a little confused. Isn't America one huge melting pot? Didn't people come to America from all over the world to find a better life for themselves and escape intolerance?
The only natives to this country did not speak english, but they were brutally pushed out of their homes.
I think many 'Americans' need to be a little more understanding. If someone else doesn't speak english, you don't need to cry. You will find someone else who does and you will get your hamburger or whatever you was wanting.

I have no problem with non Americans working in America, but this is America. If your going to live and work here, learn to speak our language. We should be taking Spanish class unless we plan on moving to Mexico or Spain any time soon.

No law should be passed dictating what language legal immigrants and US citizens should speak, but business should be free to conduct their business exclusively in one language if they want, they should be free to require that their employees speak whatever language that the managers decide! My guess is that in most cases that would be English.
Freedom Rocks.

It's goofy. If you can find me 10,000 Americans who want to make $6/hr picking grapes or apples in the baking sun, then policy until the cows come home.

i believe they should be at least able to understand the simply directions giving to them in order to work here unless it is a big company where there is bound to be someone there who speaks there language.. how ever i do believe they should be expected to take a English class to learn .. if we moved to there country we would have to learn to speak their language.. my bf sister moved to Mexico and she has to learn Spanish.and take a class,,, now for the funny part .. she is half Mexican and never learned her language

If you choose to make a living in America (or any other English speaking nation), you should have the responsibility to learn the language and use it.

It's about damn time. And while we're at it, lets verify citizenship or residence visas for all employees and ship the one's who can't show legal status BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM.
