The best thing to do is to stretch. For your side splits, just go down as far as you can and hold for at least three minutes each. It takes at least three minutes for your muscles to actually start stretching. For the strattle split(middle split) lay down on your back and put your butt up against the wall. Spread your legs/feet out into the strattle position, and let gravity do the rest. Just the same as the side splits, hold for at least three minutes. Also, it takes time to get splits unless you are just naturally flexible. And it takes different people different periods of time to get splits. Good Luck and don't get discouraged. It takes some people years. But I'm sure that as long as the people that you're trying out for know that you are trying your best, you will do fine.

The warmer your muscles are the more they are going to stretch. Stretch before you go to bed because when you wake up in the morning your muscles are very stiff from laying in a bed all night long. And it doesn't hurt to stretch other than at night! work on doing it right not all the way into a split but its incorrect, trust be you don't want that! Do it the right way. Make sure your legs aren't turned in, and try to touch your butt to the floor. =] Good Luck!

I have been dancing for years. The best way is to first warm up your muscles buy running, jogging, anything. Then just stretch and practice. Remember to point your toes and for the center split knees to the ceiling! Good Luck! Oh and kicks really help too. That's how I got my center, kick line!

just keep streching. Every time u stretch try to go down a little further than u did before. Dont force yourself because the next day you'll be really soar and will realize that u cant do them anymore. Just take ur time and eventually ull get there.

Practice, practice, practice. I used to not be able to do the splits, but then I took ballet, and you just PRACTICE! Practice every day. Try to go a little lower every time.

And here's a hint: Wear loose clothes when you practice! It's really hard to do the splits in super-tight jeans!
