I think that you are leading up to the question do students know how to do research. I doubt it. The computer is easy, and they are lazy. What they do is ask people on here to do their work. This accomplishes two things, it stokes the egos on here and it keeps the little babies from doing it them selves. It often seems they could research here faster then asking for answers.
But that would take work. I think a lot of them have a broom and mop or a deep fat fryer in their employment future.

Our Middle School definitely has a library however, like many of the advanced technological schools of the day, have become "Media Centers". We have 30 computers and students must have authorization from parents to go on internet. Many of our tests and assessments are loaded onto computers and students can be graded immediately! It saves a lot of "paperwork" for teachers and we can do more 'in the classroom". The one problem I have found is that students don't seem to like to 'read' anymore and when I have projects assigned, I can no longer just expect them to use "book' sources for additional information. I try to encourage the use of 4-5 sources including the newspaper, magazines and personal interviews. Books have not become obsolete, but I find it amusing that just about any good book you want to read - you can locate it on the computer (smile) In fact, I have begun writing my own book and will probably use the internet sources to publish my work.

I'm pretty sure that at least 95% of schools still have a library, and most have computer rooms. Books are defidently not obsolete, and schools still read books, and do lots of home work about them (i'd know). Teachers still encourage kids to read on their own, so I'm pretty sure that books are not obsolete.

HAAH Thats funny! They are trying to get everyone to use computers now, but I dont think its a good idea, because I think they need to reteach some of these kids how to go into a library and look up a book. It takes time to look up a book and read it, or research it. Whereas getting on the internet takes a second and everything is summed up for you. Its funny but at the same time its not.

There are libraries. But nobody uses them for anything unless teachers require students to research printed material, and not internet sources.
