no it doesnt hurt. it's just nerve racking the first couple of times. ask your mom if she can come to your room to talk. then tell her privately.

Honey, you have nothing to be afriad of. Yes it is very imporant that you tell your mom that you have started your period so that she can buy you maxi pads or tampons. You mom wants to be there and help you through this womenly change. I think her feelings would be hurt if you didnt tell her.
When a Doctor does a pelvic exam he will put a speculum in your vagina and take a look inside and make sure that everything is ok. He will also take a few cultures and do a papsmear to make sure there is no infections or irregularities. The exam can be uncomfortable but it wont hurt. You can request that yourmom makes an appoinment with a female doctor if that makes you more comfortable. There is nothing to be afraid or embarrassed about. Feel free to ask all the questions you want to ask with out woring what the drs may think etc. They have heard it all thats what they are there for. I truely wish you the best. TC good luck.

I am not a doctor. But there are some rules: 1) You must go with someone (female), I suggest to be accompained by your mom or a more than 17 years old sister (if you have) 2) The doctor have to wear new latex gloves 3) The doctor has to work for a recognized public institution of health.
To talk to a mom about your period, just tell her talking in private with her. The other members of your family must not know about this, except your mom. If you are mushlims, I do not what to suggest. Period is not a sin or a illness, it is just a natural and the must normal thing.

GYNs typically only do intra-vaginal exams with the speculum if you are sexually active. The doc may still evaluate the exterior of your vagina or palpate the outside of your pelvis, which usually won't hurt. The doctor might insert a finger to palpate the uterus, but the finger is lubricated. It might be a little painful due to the hymen, but it's really quick.
When I was younger, I was told I didn't have to see the GYN until I was sexually active, but I think it is better to go once you have a period. That way you can build a relationship with your doctor. Besides, virgins can experience gynecological issues too.
Just tell your mom your period came. She should be understanding and able to answer any questions you might have. Good luck.

From my girlfriend:
The doctor will explain what they are doing. Worst to happen is a pinch from the speculum. You just have to relax and all will be fine.
Be open with your mom. She has periods too! She had to go through the same thing and will be more then will to help you and make things easier for you with great advice!

Sometimes when a doctor checks your vagina, it's to make sure there's nothing wrong. He may take a sample with a swab to make sure you don't have HPV or an STD. Just tell your Mom that your period started. i'm sure your mom will know what to do.

THe doctor dose it everytime i come to the doctors it dosnt heart at all its just like them looking at it. Kinda go up to ur mom and say hey mom i think i might have started my period. this may be hard but its not like your mom is going to be like ewwwww shell just help by like giving u advice and bying u pads :)

I have forgotten about the first. Just tell your mum in a natural voice that you got your first period because you will need her to buy pads. If you cannot tell her write her a note that you got your first period. If she offers you her support do not knock it back because it is a time when girls really need their mums.

all you do is lay down on a table with a geinacologist, and you spread your legs and they put a little metal thing into your vagina. It doesn't hurt. It only scares you the first time just because you get so worked up about it.
