I think the people of the us should be able to raise their children get a divorse without having to be manipulate by government rule. Once paper work is signed and handed to our government it seems as though they reign with rules laws and regulations. Who do the kids go with during a divorse. Who pays what to whom and how much. Lets take all your life long gatherings and split them no mater when they were accumulated. I believe that two people should be able to be married in the eyes of god not in the eyes of our government. Give to ceasor what is ceasors and give to god what is gods. Life and to make life it is god.

The problem is that a civil marriage is a legal contract for two people to partner their lives, and therefore the dissolution of the legal contract requires going through the legal system to end it.

Divorce hurts kids, period, whether or not a piece of paper is involved in the relationship or not. There is believed a greater likelihood that people will stay longer to work things out in a marriage because of the hassle of the divorce process.

Also, there's something called "Common Law Marriage", which is when two people live together. And if you have children, their rights immediately come into play, plus there's always the consideration of "palimony."

If you want freedom? Get sterilized so you don't have children to deal with once family life gets too hard. Getting "married in the eyes of God" is a nice way of having an escape hatch when the going gets tough. Considering gay couples get married in churches yet cannot be married in the eyes of the law, it already happens. What you feel is residual religious guilt and want the people who want marriage to be civil and religious to conform to your view.

Be tolerant of them, and show them by your actions that being married in God is not about the government. Just remember if you walk on kids, God frowns on hurting the little ones like that.

You can always have a religious ceremony or spiritual ceremony w/o having the civil papers. Marriage is truly just a legal relationship as far as the government goes. If you want the legal benefits (taxes, custody of children etc...) that come along with legal marriage, you will have to allow for the government to be involved. If you don't want the government involved you give up the legal benefits, but you can still have a spiritual connection. Same sex couples do it all the time.

The government accually seems to make marriage seem like the thing to do by offering tax breaks and benefits. You can get married in many ways, at the court house, elope or full blown marriage.

In the end a judge makes it official. You can change what happens in case of a divorse with a prenuptual. That might be the way to go.

In some states (I'm not familiar with all 50 states) there is "common law" marriage. The rules vary from state to state. There is no "paper trail." But, it is still a legal union.

Civil marriage is a governmental recognition of a traditional union, and it's certainly possible, but many folks don't want to forgo the privileges afforded by civil recognition. What you can't expect is to have your cake and eat it, too.

The man's got you down huh?

Look - think of the divorce crap as a way to protect the child. Most times divorces are not amicable - therefore they NEED intervention.

If you have one going, and it's amicable, you can do 99% of it without governmental interference. But it won't be final until a judge stamps it if it's approved.

What is your question?

The point of marriage is to be together your whole life, not to spend the whole time being concerned about what will happen when you have a divorce.
