The Iranians I've met are AWESOME!!!! I love their sense of humour. They weren't Muslim and most had grown up in Germany because of the war.
The one Iranian girl I knew was living in San Diego with her boyfriend and her parents knew about it and visited them!!
Iran is know as the more liberal of Muslim society....notice I said "MUSLIM" society. AND they are now protesting the violent speeches of its government and I didn't hear about the government shooting them.

I have never been there. They have a fabulous culture-one of the oldest going. They had a code of law much earlier than most. Their art is great.
I am more knowledgeable about the Jewish culture there.....as their history is part of the long history of Persia.
The many Persians I know are some of the sweetest people I know.
