should i place my xbox 360 vertical or horizontal

Whichever way you like best. Personally, I keep mine horizontal.
Note: Do NOT switch you 360 from horizontal to vertical when you have a game running, as it can ruin the disk.

It doesn't really matter which way you place it as long as you keep it in a well ventilated area that's relatively free of dust. I keep mine horizontal because it's easier to put discs in and take them out, and I don't have to worry about knocking it over.

Mines 360 is standing vertical because for some reason it turns off even with the intercooler if its horizonal

My opinion is horizontal because you are less likely to drop your disk and break it.
