My thanks already go to the sensible and rational people who gave answers with meaning. Wish more people would give answers of substance than 3-5 words---I guess I'm asking for too much.

Serious thanks go to: cloothe, Bhoddisatva, keypointist and Katrina. Each of you took the time to give good information in your answer. I truely wish I could give each of you 10 points, I do!

I find that Katrina gave the best answer, especially after having lived over there. So you get the 10 points.

Thank you, and wish you all a wonderful holidays!

Apparently being a prostitute is legal and you can claim it is your profession. However the act of prostitiution sex for ,money is illegal.

Unofficially there is a level of police tolerance but not enough to actually prevent prostitutes being protected from pimps, drug dealers and of course the underage aspect.

We are kind of leaning toward the more liberal approach of the Nerherlands but the government have yet had the guts or inclination to atend to the statutes probably to busy trying to fight a war on terror or something else far more important than 12 years old girls having sex with grown men to buy heroin.

Yes if they are in a flat on their own. It will normally say models or escorts available instead of prostitutes. Your not allowed to advertise sex. They are allowed a female to help them (to collect money, keep flat clean, security etc) called a Madam. She can only take tips and can't take any of the working girls money otherwise its classed as a brothel which is illegal.

It's not legal.

The police generally take a pragmatic and compassionate attitude to prostitutes though. It's a case of not hassling them unless local people make complaints about them.

The reason why women are exposed to the risk of murder by selling themselves like this is that they are not allowed to work legally from premises with other women. If the law changed to allow that women would be safer.
