50-50 tie in the senate, with the big Dick (Cheney) to cast the deciding vote. Gonna be a bad day for Harry Reid and the dems.
How bout some cheese with that whine?
Johnson is in critical condition after brain surgery. Doesn't look very good.

Well he is still alive & recovering but if he dies or can not serve out his term the Govenor will appoint a new senator. The Governor is Republican & it is very likely he will appoint a Republican to serve for the next 2 years.
That will cause a 50/50 split & shift the power in the Senate as the tie vote is Republican too. Maybe higher power weighing in?

as long as he would not renounce, he keeps to be in workplace. If he resigns, all hell breaks loose in Washington by using fact the governor of South Dakota is a Republican and could little doubt hire a Republican. which could make a 50-50 tie. as long as he would not renounce, the Democrats maintain administration, so he can stay in that coma for 2 extra years and the Dems do no longer lose administration.

Too early to tell. He may actually make a sound recovery. But were he to leave, Governor Mike Rounds may choose someone more of the "base", meaning a general Bush-devotee (anti-abortion, pro-tax cut, pro-Iraq war, lockstep conservative). I think that's unfortunate personally, because Tim Johnson is more of a centrist and better able to work between the parties.
One more thing I'd say for Johnson -- unlike many of the GOP chickenhawks in Congress and the administration, he actually has a son serving in the military, therefore a personal stake in the War on Terror. I wish there were more politicians like him. It makes me ill that there are conservatives actually hoping he falters and is forced to leave. Everyone should wish Senator Johnson a sound and healthy recovery....he's a human being, and many are seeing him as a political lever.

The governor of South Dakota gets to select another senator if Senator Johnson is unable to serve his term. Republican Governor probably would name another Republican and they keep control of the Senate. Demon-rats blame President Bush and Karl Rove for Senator Johnson's genetic flaw.

2 things could happen:
1. He recovers and returns to his seat and nothing happens.
2. He is forced to step down for health reasons, the governor appoints his republican replacement, and the balance of power shifts to a 50-50 split with Cheney casting the tiebreaking vote.
I'd love to see the 50-50 split, but I wish him well for a speedy and complete recovery and an unimpeded return to his life.

HOLD ON! he isn't dead. According to what I've read, his prognosis is uncertain. He may well recover.
