I started babysitting when I was your age... the best way to get experience is to babysit while the mom is still home. If there is a problem, she is right there. As you become more experienced, she will trust you more and more, and you will also be able to gain the trust of other parents by using her as a reference.

You might start out doing it for free, just for the experience. I charged $5/hr until I quite babysitting in 2002 - in my area, that was on the low end.

Interact with the kids, and play with them with the toys they have there. The parents will tell you what they are allowed to eat, and the food (snacks or meal) should already be prepared.

Good luck!

I think that it is great that you are getting into babysitting, but don't you think that you are too young for that age group? I have a toddler and wouldn't trust anyone that young. I don't let anyone watch my kids unless they have had classes to deal with different situations, and CPR for sure. Would you know what to do if you had a toddler that was choking? or stuffed something in his ear or nose? Could you handle it if they cried for no reason or did the terrible two's thing and started to bite or scratch, or just plain throw a fit to you or towards other children? nothing can prepare you for those kinds of things even if your older. I think that you should look at kids maybe around the age of 5 that are out of those risks a little more and need a little less supervision. And I would make sure that you do it at your house with either your mom or dad around for help if needed, or even where you know your neighbors better. If their was an emergency you would not want to have to think twice about how you would get to the hospital, or the address if you needed help. Just think about it, and good luck.

Rates depend on the area. Some people areas pay more then others. Personally, I get payed around $7. Ask the person how much they want to charge you. Most likely they already have their mindset on a rate. Qoute $7 or $8 though, depending on how many kids, and how young, charge more.

Don't worry about food. They have some there. Most likely they will already be fed.

The best thing to do is taking a babysitting or CPR in your community (the redcross offers some great ones!). I wouldn't suggest babysitting until you have taken one of these classes.

I never charged a rate, I just took what they gave me which was usually $1/hr/kid but that was almost 20 yrs ago. yikes! I don't know what the going rate is today.

It's fun with toddlers, they just want to play. Read them books, make faces, spin them around, throw in the air, play peek-a-boo, patty cake.... a lot of them like to color. Just remember they have a short attention span.

As for food, the parents should lay down the guidelines there. my clients usually left a dinner or snack already prepared. I had a little guy once that choked all the time and I was scared to feed him. Small chunks are helpful.

It depends on where you live. For example in Ontario, babysitting rates start at, at lest $5.00 an hour. So if you are babysitting 3 children you should recieve at leat $15.00 per hour if you had trouble with them than a little bit more.($2.50 extra per child per hour). And as for the food they can eat ask the parents to leave you a list of what they can and can not have, bedtimes and important phone numbers. GOOD LUCK!!!!!THERE ARE NO WEBSITES!!!!!USE COMMON KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daycares charge 2.50 per hour per child. But you aren't a daycare so take a pay cut. 2. per hour per child.

Just play with them. If you play with them then you are always watching them and nothing will happen without you knowing.

For food I would definetly ask there mom. I don't think youlll be doing any cooking so just ask mom what htey eat...just make snacks. Stay away from thinks they could choke on like hard candy, hot dogs, popcorn hard apples...things liek taht.

how did you get a job without babysitting before? aren't you suppose to have any experience?
I wouldn't let someone babysit my child if they didn't know what they were doing. just my opinion.
