You should try 1&1 webhosting. I'm with them and they are very professional, cheap and efficient. A good test is to email a webhost helpdesk and see how long they take to respond to your problem. 1&1 responded very quickly when I did this.

I wouldn't use a free host. This is mainly because of the nature of a free webhost - they need to earn money somehow. Most free webhosts plaster your site with adverts. Also, they tend not to provide support for dynamic websites which use PHP or ASP (something businesses sites use a lot). Also, if you have a domain name (such as www.domainname.com) free webhosts sometimes don't support them. Lastly some free webhosts are not for users who intend on making money through their site. Check the small print on whichever host you choose as you don't want your site to be taken down because of not reading the rules.

Mind you, if you only want a site for family and friends then maybe the above drawbacks aren't relevant. In which case do a Google search for 'free web host' or something similar.

It is EXTREMELY hard to operate an ecommerce store selling personalized gifts on a free webhosting account. With free, you get what you pay for -- which is basically nothing.

To sell online, you need a shopping cart system, a secured socket layer or SSL (https://) to make your site transaction secure, payment processing system, and you need a backend system to check your order status -- NONE of which you can get with a free website.

If you plan to sell online, invest in your own domain which you can buy from GoDaddy for $8.99 and some sites even sell them lower. Or explore complete turnkey ecommerce systems such as Yahoo Store.

If you want to sell online, don't use a FREE webhosting system.

You can use Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/reg -- the downside is that they will serve ads that may compete with your offerings so you will be losing your visitors.

Or you can use free webhosting from Bravenet http://www.bravenet.com/webhosting/

Understand though that a free website for a site doing business gives a poor professional image for the site. Many view free websites doing business as too amateurish, and many will not part with their hard earned money on a business operating on a free website -- given that it is so easy to sign up with a free website, how can a customer know that the site is trustworthy and not a scam? It's a hard image to erase, so I really suggest consider doing some investment and not use a free site

Don't bother with a free hosting account. If you can't afford $6 per month then time to find a new business! Go to the link below and sign up for a free account and then call them. They are there 24/7 and are very helpful. It's the best hosting around. And don't forget, you get what you pay for!

To set up an e-commerce Web site, you need the ability to use scripting languages. Most free Web sites out there do not give you that ability, nor do they allow you to operate under your own domain name (i.e., instead of being www.yourbusiness.com, you get to run your Web site as yourbusiness.hostingcompany.com). In addition, the hosting company will show ads on your pages.

All in all, you should consider getting a domain name and shared hosting for it. There may or may not be an initial setup fee, but hosting itself would run you well under $10/month...
