I have a question to those who, by chose or circumstance, live "simply" (beautifully, I say)--with few possessions, in a rich, peaceful, satisfied life. My question is this: what things do you own? I.E., a few pairs of clothes, a bag, a brush...What is your day like? You see, I am intending to begin this sort of lifestyle and I am looking for a sensible example to follow and also, to know what it looks like. Thanks a lot.

The difficult part is not in deciding which possessions stay and which go...it's getting to that "rich, peaceful, satisfied" point, and there are no possessions that will lead you (or prevent you from getting) there. The circumstances of your life will partially dictate how you make choices about possessions...depending on, for example, where you work, you may need to commit to having certain items of clothing in your wardrobe. Otherwise, you can approach each item in your life individually and ask, "Do I need this to survive? Does this serve some important function that no other item serves? Does this item remind me of a loved one or special moment in a way that no others do?" No sense in just boxing up everything you own and putting it out by the curb...simplifying is a process, and it occurs as much inside you as it does in your environment. You say you intend to start living this way, but in fact, there's no need to wait. You can start right now. May you find the richness and peace you seek.

I rather doubt that anyone with a computer and a connection to the Internet at 11:30 pm is living simply. Living simply are those people living under bridges and rooting through the trash for food. Every town has at least a couple, if you want to interview them.

i live simply, meaning that i am not extravagant with purchases or take more than i need. it doesn't mean that i have to live with just a few pair of jeans and a brush. you've seen too many movies portraying hippies.

to live simply is a way of life and a way of mind. you can still own a computer and live simply and give of yourself to others. to live simply, i think is to live within your means, and not to be extravagant. it is living humbly and modestly.
