usually the kids drafted out of high school are like 17 or 18, but the NBA has a new rule that high schoolers will not be allowed to be drafted into the NBA until they are in or have just graduated college. this makes them around 21 years old, and think that Michael Jordan was there until he was 40 but he was the greatest player ever. So i would have to say the average career for an NBA player is actually around 15 years for the players that become veterans. it can be cut short due to injuries or prolonged like mike but the average is 2about 15 years.

Of course we all understand that it varies between player and player since everyones body is not the same.

But I see alot of players careers reach its peak around 30, then start to decline when they are about 34. Some people can still play well, but not like they used to around that age. I think the prime ago to go out is around 36.

So I guess it would depend when they joined the league to.

So a usual NBA career might last from 21-36.

"peak performance is maintained between the ages of 18-35 for most males. Younger for women. Also remeber most of these elite players or future hall of famers maintain it longer than most. One of the first things to go are muscle twitches in the legs. Therefor, one may notice they don't move as fast or jumpp as high. However their turnover may not be as high and their shooting percentage may actually increase due to their EXPERIENCE. On the average NBA players career duration is 10 years.
