The only check is the voltage going to the hard drive from the power supply.
These voltages are 5v and 12v.
Because it is a sealed unit you cannot measure the resistance of the motor.

Just what are you trying to do? You can check the voltage across components, you can only check voltages. You need some knowledge about testing electronics, otherwise you can ruin the HD. Such as the formulas necessary, to interpreting the results.

You wouldn't. If you aren't sure that your drive is getting enough power then you would use the multi-meter on the proper pins of the power connector.

you dont.is like you use an electric meter to count your gas usage.
