The earth's landmasses were joined many times and named different names over the last 4 to 5 Billion years. The last big land mass was called Pangea and was formed about 195 Million years ago during the Jurassic Period. Have a look at the following website and it will show the different Geological Periods throughout earth's life and show the different names of the supercontinents during the different eras. It is called Pangaea or Pangea (alternate spellings) It is believed that it was one huge continent and then earthquakes and volcanoes caused the land to move and seperate.

There is good evidence for this. Take a world map and paste it on cardboard. then cut out a puzzle Making sure to use the borders as your cutting points. Then Try to fit the land pieces together without using the ocean pieces. They almost all fit

Hawaii and a few others don't, but then they were formed by volcanoes, much later.
