i know 2 and i think they r appaulling role models/ mothers.
I know this Q will bring many angry responses, but its a burning question i have to ask.
Do their own inadaquacies bring them to a proffession where they can profess to b good role models to children/parents?

Social workers are best avoided on ALL levels. If one tries to get to know you on a personal/social level, sprinkle garlic around your house and get a church minister to pray for your soul. Their inadequacies are limitless and the depths cannot be fathomed. If they can't be avoided no matter what you do, put up your house for sale and move far, far away telling no-one where you're going. This is no exaggeration, in fact it's hardly scratching the surface of the trouble they can be should you have the misfortune to ever meet one.

Social workers are human beings. That's it. Don't hld them to any higher standards than you would anyone else. The two social workers you know may be the epitome of the expression "those who can, do. Those who can't, teach", or "Do as I say,not as I do", or even "The cobblers kids had no shoes".

The two social workers you know may lead a chaotic private life and be apalling (yes, correct spelling) role models in their private lives. Before you judge too harshly, as we are all perfect, don't you wish you could have an overview of the lives they have touched and changed and improved, professionally?

Perhaps their own inadequacies do bring them to this profession, in a search for answers, or for redemption. It is their personal journey, no matter what, and you would be a good friend to help them along and guide them in the right direction rather than proclaim them arbitrarily poor candidates for the profession.

I do know an entire CPS division. Some good, none bad ( but a few who are jaded and harsh), all worked to death and flooded every day with drug addicts, child abusers, thieves, felons, liars, which will make you nuts, I think.

The most penetratingly chilling part of their every day job is facing a child that has been taken out of a home for any number of reasons.

If your friends come home and are wrecks, help them be to their families who they are to their wards every work day of their lives.

You see a problem. Be part of the solution. Be a friend.

Good luck.

I tend to agree with most of these answers, but I would still not let a social worker anywhere near my family because once a foot in the door is achieved you cannot get rid of them.No matter how much they believe they are doing good having somebody interfering in your lives is horrible.....

I dissagree with you, one of my closest friends is a social worker and you couldn't find a more caring person, either with her clients or her family. Not all social workers are ogres you know, you cannot tar them all with the same brush.
