You think children weren't commodified before Angelina Jolie?
She is smart. Instead of wasting time and energy giving birth to genetically similar children, she can pay some small fee for a genetically dissimilar one-- and look like a great philanthropist in the process, while bringing publicity to a media deadzone, and stave off the guilt of her enormous wealth. What difference do genes make when you just want a pet? Tactically, it's brilliant.
You have to be beyond jaded to associate adopted children with fashion, EVEN IF it's true -- say it was quite intentional, even!-- Angelina still wins, because all criticisms are exceedingly marginal to the charitable interpretations.
It's like throwing rotten tomatoes at Mother Theresa and calling her an "attention whore".
Which, come to think of it, would have been funny.
But not to most~

Accessory?. God, it is a hard word.
I know a man, he is Millionaire. He works here in my country (it is a 3world one), i'm talking about Venezuela. He works for the goverment, actually. He is a Us citizen. He is an old man. He has 5 kiddos, and only one -1- of them is his real kid (biological i mean). The rest -the 4- are adopted. They come from poor families i guess. All of them are already grown up, except the last one -she is a sweet girl-.
They are all professionals, well educated... and I see those "proud eyes" in Mr. M, everytime he talks about "his kids". I see his love for them, and only God knows how big is my admiration for this good man. With aaaalll that money, and his happines and blessing is his family. These third world country men that once were 4 kids with little hopes of surviving our hard streets, are now succesful people, with a real life. I don't know if these stars take those kids as ultimate accesories .. but thanks to all of them for giving the chance to someone "to survive"...
In Africa, the biggest gift is life. In many streets of my "latinamerica", the biggest gift is life.
In Africa, when a kid doesn't "recieve" that biggest gift, is because he dies of hunger.
In Latinamerica when a kid doesn't recieve the biggest gift, is because he dies of hunger ... or is murdered in the street.
I can't say if "they bought ultimate 3rd world countries human accesories". But God bless, Angelina, Madonna, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Nicole Kidman ... and many others ... for what they do.

Madonna curiously stated that she wasn't adopting an African newborn, she only made a goodwill visit to the continent. although, she would not innovations that someone began that hearsay, because it drew interest to their plight. yet so what if stars do undertake third-international children? it really is a lot kinder and humane than wearing a canines that has been inbred to f**okay to be so small, and wearing the adverse sickly little ingredient in a handbag... :(

October 17, 2005 may have been the exact day.
I feel that you are criticizing this phenomenon, however, and are really not interested in the date.
Aren't most of, if not all of, the poor Third-World kids not likely to like longer, happier, more productive lives than otherwise? I don't see much harm in this. If you don't like Madonna or Angelica, you are free to boycott their films and records, I suppose.
Picasso beat his wives and girlfriends regularly, and this did not seem to affect the prices of his paintings.

While it may not fasionable for some, for the children it is an opportunity to live. Let's not quabble over where the child comes from, children are in need everywhere. If they can afford them, let them take care of as many as they want. God Bless the children who are afforded a home and a little stability in their lives.

Fall in love with one sometime and you'll get it.
-- There do seem to be a lot of celebs doing it though. I just think they're proud and they want to advertise for it so more people will do it.
-- But a lot of celebs use their natural children as accessories anyway.

When people started to forget that most of the celebs are getting hybrid cars after they got their fuel-guzzling Hummers. So in order to make them seem more compassionate, "Hello poor children!" It's all publicity.

It's pathetic isn't it? Angelina Jolie and Madonna find it more "cool" to go to an exotic 3rd world country and remove them from their culture than it is to adopt an equally eligible child from our own ranks of unwanted and discarded children.
