I have seen several torn muscles... usually the muscle tears from its insertion point... a ligament, where the muscle is attached to the bone. (As opposed to the muscle belly).

NE wayz, if she tore a muscle she would likely have a huge lump on her leg that wont go away and it is usually painfully retracted. There is a possibility that she partially tore a tendon, as sometimes they fray. They usually don't do surgery for all tendon tears, as they sometimes heal with rest and anti-inflammatories.

Kudos for putting up with the military docs... I am going to be one...

Good luck!!

Which muscle snapped? With the temp cast I am assuming it was the gastroc (calf) or achilles tendon. Depending on the severity of the muscle tear, you may have a palpable void in the muscle belly, as stated in a previous post. By the way, ligaments connect bone to bone and tendons connect muscles to bone. Flat feet will cause the foot to overly pronate and can, in some cases cause some nerve deficiency. If the two conditions are related is a good question. Tell your wife to take he rehab seriously and she shoulf recover quite nicely. Good luck.
