Soak the jar in warm water for a while. The label will then come off and you can scrape off any of the excess.

Putting the jar in the dishwasher is the easiest way. Depending on the glue (and the dishwasher) - the dishwasher may remove the glue entirely, or leave it on - but non-tacky.

run under hot water.....the glue residue can be removed by rubbing in peanut butter very well then finish off with more hot water

I know this is super stupid, but when I read your question I imediatly thought.... Well, I wll either give it to my boyfriend to figure out or pass it to my little brother... Lazy me... Anyhow... hot water should do the trick, and then wash it in Liquid soap.
