They're editted versions, but the intent in the songs are there:

-Does Your Chain Hang Low
-My Humps -Black Eyed Pea's
-Fergilicious
-Riding Dirty

I don't think they're appropriate, what do you guys think?

Thanks for the answers so far. My sister did tell the school and the PE teacher just gave this "I've been teaching here for 1.5 years..." thing. My nephew understands what the songs are about, I can guess that other kids get the idea. In fact, some of those first graders are already cursing and getting called up on sexual harassment for various reasons. These songs shouldn't be played since they endorse those behaviours and add "fuel to the fire" so to speak.

They are NOT appropriate! Oh my God, you have to be kidding that people would be playing this, even if they are "edited". That means they just dropped the f-bombs, not the message of the stupid songs.

Call the school and make it clear it's not acceptable, especially since they're perfectly happy with sending kids home who hug teachers and other kids these days for sexual harassment!

First graders should be listening to the Hokey Pokey and other movement songs, and there are clean pop songs out there. If they have to, they can listen to Radio Disney for a couple of weeks and consider getting a CD of Disney songs. I cannot believe they're endorsing mature-themed music for six-year-olds.

Why are they listening to music in the first place. I don't think even if they are playing top 40 music that 5th graders should hear that music. I think if parents want their kids to listen to that type of music that is their choice but there are some parents who don't want their kids to hear that. That is like that Kids bop line of CDs for kids. It is all top 40 songs sung by kids but some of the songs I dont even want to hear and they are letting kids sing them for other kids to hear. I have 2, 1st graders(twin) and if I found out they were playing "my humps" to them during class time I would be pissed!

No they are not appropriate at all. Have you talked to the school principal about it? Maybe he/she doesn't know what the gym teacher is playing?

I am a girl but I think no. That's just wrong and I bet their parents don't know they're listening to it.
