proximity, familiarity, while that may seem a little simplistic the research shows that the closer one is to the the other the more attractive thay will seem. A big factor in work place romances. While it is fairly obvious that if you dont have contact with someone you are hardly likely to be attracted to them the reverse is also true. As for personality; it is more that if it doesnt have a negative impact on you, once becoming familiar with them you will find the person attractive.

I think it is eye contact,so much is interpretive with that. as well as body language.
Most importantly the term"soul mate" is a remnant of the Hippie-new age movement. love is love. 6months down the line into a relationship the soul mate will find fault. A person can find that perfect person by being a nice gentleman or woman with pleasant demeanor, mannerisms, well groomed
Forget soul mate. I have seen to many that split apart.

It could be so many things. I think personality makes a big difference. I love it when the person is confident and funny. I love accents - that makes a difference in appearance to me. Looks do matter - physical attraction is so important.

It's a combination of personality, attitude, looks- that is appealing to us, and attracts us to them. Why? Because nature wants any species to reproduce and sometimes the attraction can be very subliminal and the reasons may not be obvious (the person may not be classically good looking but they can be still very attractive to us)

It has been scientifically proven that the best guide to finding the most appropriate sexual partner is the sense of smell. As for the reasons why - it is just a biological desire to reproduce.

Have you ever noticed how much long term couples look alike?

I think what attracts us initially to others, are physical traits that resemble our own. Even the most subtle traits, like small eyes or broad smiles.

Simple biology. The species is designed to be self continuing.

Sometimes it's looks, sometimes it's personality, sometimes it's just the things they like. There's no one thing that attracts us to others.
