something that makes sense, is logical, factual, and is appropriately pertaining to the subject matter, is often referred to as relevant.

example:

"The woman's testimony provided on the trial was not relevant to the evidence of the case"

It means..Is it necessary?
Is it important to the subject at hand?
It means..Does it really relate to the subject that we're talking about?

Relevant,,,,It matters.

For example, two people are talking about a child that was lost for an entire day and the lost child is homesick and hungry.

The two people find and call the parents and tell them where to go to pick up their child.

One guy says,"Let's get this child something to eat while we wait for the parents to get here. Like an ice cream cone from over there, across the street."

The other guy says, "Naw. The child isn't going to starve to death"

The first guy says, "That's not even relevant! The point is, it will help cheer the little guy up! Can't you see he's scared?"

You see? The point was not to keep the child from starving but to help soothe the child with a tastey treat.

The second guys comment was irrevelant or not relevant. Both terms are accepted.

Different translations of the bible would suggest love and charity are synonmus. Examples found in.1st Corrinthians ch. 13 vs. 1-17 illustrate this many times. I would enjoy hearing from a scholar of the languages used in those past times to clarify my understanding. The story of the "World's Poorest Philanthropist", Gilbert "Harold" Ewing II (myself) is the reason for this querry. The " act of grace", or charity, reffered to in the news interview, has posited this question and I lack the sort of education to provide any insights of true value.

What is the relevance to this question? Just kidding.
It means how you apply something or a word to a situation.

IT MEANS.......NEED , OF IMPORTANCE , RELATED TO ,
For example.....someone asks a question and the person starts answeing the question with something that has nothing to do with the answer. how is that relevent ? = how does that relate to what we're talking about. Is this question relevent ?? = Is this question necessary. Or doesn't pertain to.......I hope I have helped ya out. I don't have a dictionary handy , so I had to explain it the best way I could.

It means it is related to the something else. Related as is in having a relationship to. For example, a comment is relevant, then it is a comment that has something to do with the issue. If someone says something is not relevant, they are discounting it as not related to the point.

Relevant is a derivative of the root word "relate". See link for expounded information.

It means have relation to something, sharing some common attributes and having some impact. Like if I say, my compensation is relevant to whether I will relocate. It means my decision to relocate has some impact on or is impacted by what my new pay will be.
