No. The DVD is in widescreen (1.85:1), the same ratio as the original theatrical movie.

The only way to get a fullscreen copy would be to buy an inferior bootleg, transferred directly from the earlier VHS version.

Widescreen is as the director/producer intended it to be seen, with the full image as it was in the theater. Fullscreen, otherwise known as pan and scan, requires an editor to choose what you see and may change how the scenes feel. A good example that is often used is a scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The scene is where Indy and his father are basically having a discussion face to face. In the widescreen version, you see them looking at each other while talking and you get a better sense that they are right next to each other, whereas the 'pan and scan' version shows one, then the other and keeps cutting back and forth, giving more of a feeling of isolation between the two characters and basically shows less interplay, including losing the facial reactions from each as the other is speaking. Hope that helps you to understand why some prefer the widescreen format. It is the more complete movie.

Yeah, you go buy a new TV that is 16:9 and it fits the whole screen. All 4:3 size tvs will go extinct soon and you will have to watch movies smaller than your tv. Think ahead.
