Militarily, the Crusades failed because at the end, the Muslims still controlled the Holy Land. The Crusades increased the power of European kings (since many lords did not survive the Crusades), increased the power of the Roman Catholic church and the Peope (because the pope was the person who convinced the Catholics to retrieve the Holy Land), as well as increased trade and new ideas because many new products and ideas were brought back to Europe.

It made the Europeans see a world they would not have otherwise seen. Opened trade routes to the east. Gave the Europeans new technology from the Arabs. Helped unite the Arabs. Helped to start the breakup of the feudal system. The crusades were expensive so the Lords would sell thier land to those who didn't have land. Started with those with trades in the cities. They formed guilds. Had less effect on the peasants.

In one sense, there were no lasting effects, because the crusader states established in the Holy Land (Kingdom of Jerusalem, Principality of Antioch) were reconquered. The Fourth Crusade, however, was diverted to the conquest of Constantinople. This resulted in feudal states being set up in Greece (Principality of Achaia, Duchy of Athens and Thebes) that lasted until the 15th Century.

1) Long lasting animosity between Christian and Muslim.
2) eventually leads to the renaissance
3) Sacking of Constantinople- they never recover, helping to create Ottoman Empire.
4) solidify/create the ideas of nation state in Europe
5) set the path for protestant reformation
keep in mind wikipedia is not a peer reviewed source anybody can put anything there, I would not cite it as a source on something I had to turn in.

Ever since then, there has been a lot of hatred between Christians and Muslims. And I think it put yet another bad mark in the Christianity column.

Unfortunately, I believe the most damaging effect was everlasting hatred between Christians and Muslims.
