I have to write a dumb history pager and i was wondering if anyone could refer me to any websites or even tell me there opinion to help me out. Thanks!

No, Jefferson was not committed to ending slavery. Maybe he wanted the end personally, but he was more committed to bringing the U.S. into existence with the Declaration of Independence and perpetuating it by his inputs into the writing of the Constitution. Whatever he might have wanted to put into those documents himself, he was willing to given it up for his greater cause.

His main idea which was not implemented was to have all blacks born to slaves after 1800 be born free. That would have forced the south to adapt much quicker by freeing the children. They would have stayed on and some new form of agreement would have been made. Of course that did not happen and the Union paid, especially the south with the civil war.
