how is this different than love at first sight?

I have felt many forms of love...family, friends, humanity, the opposite gender, god...all requiring relationships to form the love that is there. The phrase "love at first sight" seems contradictory to me. Can anyone help me understand?

well I believe in love in first sight but in the way most people see it. pheromones have a lot to do with how you're attracted to someone. so really its love at first smell. I think it goes back to primal instincts, but it still happens. You just get attracted to someone because of their scent and I mean natural, not with perfume and stuff like that. You said you felt appreciation which is different than love. You can appreciate someone's beauty but not love them. usually people mean Love at first sight to pertain to future husbands/wives and not friends or family.

I don't believe in love at first sight. I do believe that what you experienced is what people mistake for love at first sight. However, REAL emotional/psychological love takes time and getting to know a person.

Love at first sight = crush. That instant attraction that can render a sane person insane. It's not really love, just really strong attraction. Love can develop if the two get to know eachother.

usually it just means, the person is physically and personaly(meaning the words they say and there personality) seems to be almost irresistable. I dont think you are actually "in love" @ 1st sight it just means there demeanor is very very attractive. I did this with my husband to be. When I met him I was blown away by his charm, the way he was dressed, his politeness. I told him oh my god I love you, Im going to marry you. He just blushed, little did he know that I really am going to be his wife. were getting married in june!
