If your son is like 11 or somewhere around there don't get him Xbox Live. The Xbox 360 is a great system to have. The PS3 is way expensive, and the Wii has been flying out of kids hands right into tvs, furniture, and people. I'd go with the Xbox 360.

Here is one of my earlier posts. Hope this helps in deciding.

Okay, I have both. Although it may not be fair considering I have only one game and a few movies for the ps3 and over a dozen for the 360.
I have played both, I have had the 360 for over a year now and the ps3 for roughly 2 weeks. I still prefer the 360. I dont see a huge difference in graphics yet. Yes, I am running on an hdtv, through an hdmi cable. I am not able to get 1080p, but my television offers both 720p and 1080i.
I like being able to play blu ray movies on the ps3. There are some good high def visuals to see while playing a movie in high def. This is the only thing I have enjoyed so far with the ps3.
The 360, in my view is way better. I like the dashboard feature, I enjoy downloading all the retro arcade games I grew up on. As rudementary as they are, they are still good entertainment. I also enjoy the fact that now, if I wanted to I could download movies from the 360 rather than going down to the video store. They dont have a lot to choose from yet, but I see alot more coming in the future. You can also download television episodes from some of the most popular cable channels. ABC, NBC,Comedy Channel, MTV, MTV2, CBS. This allows you to download such shows as CSI, South Park, and many many more. The possibilities with the 360 blow me away.
I could go without the ps3 at this point. The 360's capabilities are endless. Granted, you lose some of the graphics the ps3 gives you.
If given the choice personally to choose betweeen the two...I would take the 360.
Anyone wanna buy a ps3 ?

Xbox360 has good graphics, good games, and good on line experience but is about $400 + games(usually about $60), extra controllers ($50 each), extended warranty (always a good idea) etc etc which all ads up. But its a lot easier to get and already has a good selection of games.

Wii has decent graphics but make up for it in most game's game play. Very interesting controls that open the door for more interesting and fun to play games. as for the prices, $250 for the system (at best buy. the price varies elsewhere from what I've seen). Wii remotes are $40+ $20 for the nunchuk adapter and games are $50 bucks usually.

Now which system you choose depends on what you think he will like better, better graphics, action packed games, fun on line play(360), or decent graphics but very very fun game play and revolutionary controls (Wii). It also depends on his age. In my opinion if hes 15 or under he would like Wii more. If hes older he would like the more action packed/violent games of 360. You know your son best so really your best qualified to make the decision. But either way if you can't find a Wii(try best buys on Sunday or Monday, rumor is they get new shipments each week on Sunday) then you can still find a Xbox360 pretty easily, though in the end its alot more exspensive but maybe worth it.

wii is cheaper by 250 dollars (double the wii price). and most people want the better ps3 which has wireless internet, sd slots and a bigger hard drive. if u care:

first off. I USED TO LOVE SONY/PLAYSTATION. but then the price raise to 600 dollars. the 500 dollar doesnt come with wifi and a smaller hard drive and no sd slots, but i went with the wii. like the ps3, the wii has motion sensor technology, but on top of that it has pointing sensors and twisting sensor and speed sensor (all in one). but it depends on wat games you want. if u want shooters, and mgs4, then go for ps3. if u want mario and super smash bros go for the wii. the ps3 can play ps2 games but i heard it is having troubles. the wii can play gamecube and you can download old games from nes, snes and n64. if u like sitting down while playing, get the ps3. if u want a next generation player, get ps3 its blue ray. if u want an HD gaming system WITH AMAZING GRAPHICS get the ps3. obviously u can still get better graphics with a ps3. but i hope this helps. I have a wii because the ps3 if too expensive. and o ya wii graphics. depends on game. ranges from gamecube to xbox (original graphics), but some games like mario and wii sports u dont need the graphics cuz its like animation. and o ya ps3 does have hdmi but not included and wii has a better cable that supports 480p but it doesnt come with it either. wii comes with wii sports. om 360. it will have no problems cuz all bugs and defects are fixed. RIGHT NOW the 360 graphics are the same if not better than ps3. but xbox supports 1080i (not as good as playstations 1080p) through hd wires (not as good as hdmi wires). but xbox has dvd player. NO MOTION SENSING WHAT SO EVER. but it has xbox arcade. 3 popular games are the original doom, ultimate mortal kombat and street fight (i believe all are updated graphics but i know umk is). REMEMBER ONE THING, HALO 3 WILL B ON 360 and GEARS OF WAR IS ALREADY ON IT! and im pretty sure all 3 are online. one more thing 360 has no wifi requires a ethernet cable or 100 dollar adapter to go online

Well, when you say that PS3s are hard to find, you're absolutely right, but when you say that Nintendo's graphics are horrible, that's not true. Ignore the rumor about the "horrible graphics of the Wii" because I heard they are the best! You cannot get a better system than the Wii, there can't be anything better than the Wii, the control on other systems can't come close to the Wii, just please get the Wii! You won't regret it!

Nintendo graphics are actually pretty good. I mean, they can't do eyelash mapping like the PS3 but what are you paying for? They're called video-GAMES, and the Wii is fun to play.

XBOX is the easiest to acquire, and already has a large fanbase on XBOX LIVE. However, If you buy this system for him, make sure to buy a subscription to XBOX LIVE GOLD and hook the system up to the internet.
