My wife was talking with her best friend and suggested that she would be a surrogate mother for us. What were are wondering what are somethings that we need to know? Costs?(most insurance plans do not cover this) Legal issues? Physical, emotional and mental support? We had never considered looking or having someone be a surrogate for us. Please can someone help us, thanks.

This is an update because of what someone wrote. As for the moral part, how my wife and I have talked it would be my wife's egg harvested and my sperm then the egg would be implanted into the friend.

You would need an attorney to handle "custody" issues.

The best friend may require money from you and your wife to help pay for Dr's visits or she may not since its a friendship.

I would do a search on line and ask mother who have done this how the whole process works.

Interesting question and I have not been a surrogate mother but I noticed you didn't ask about moral issues at all - only legal, physical and emotional.

Have you considered that it might be wrong for you to inseminate a woman you are not married to simply because you insist on having a child that is biologically yours?

What makes you a father is not where your baby comes from, but how you take care of that baby. With so many wonderful and beautiful children waiting to be adopted, I pray that you and your wife will look elsewhere and not do this un-natural thing.
