Which do think is the focus of this side of the debate? In my last question, someone posted that the right has some sort of conspiracy to concentrate power to the alpha male. I see almost no evidence of this in pro-life arguement, but I'm interested in what people think.

Where is the focus? Are pro-lifers using this issue to opress women or promote life? If they are trying to opress women, why are many of the most devote pro-lifers women?

Most pro-lifers genuinely believe that abortion is murdering a child; it has nothing to do with oppression.

Sometimes, in a heated debate, someone will ascribe ulterior motives to the other side if they just can't understand why they think the way they do. This happens very, very often in the abortion debate, and it happens on both sides.

They think they are doing a right thing. In their belief, pro-lifers think they are saving the "unborn" and saving lives and I don't think they are anti-women. However, their purpose is to make abortion illegal and that would bring on illegal abortions. It is not possible to make abortions disappear whether you agree with it or not. Illegal abortions would cause the women to die by horrible hemorraghes. In the end, they won't save any lives. Their heart is in the right place (though I disagree with them) but they can't stop abortions and in making it illegal it would cause deaths of many women.

To Vanmu: I'm pro-choice and abortions were ocurring before Roe v. Wade. There were about 1.2 million abortions each year is basically the same number today. Didn't do much in those times that abortions were illegal. Also, anually 110,000 women from around the world die annually from illegal abortions. Nobody is anti-abortion, if they were then why do some pro-lifers support abortion when the woman's life is in danger? Some even support late-term abortions to save the woman's life. So unless you are against all abortions, then you shouldn't talk.

It's fear. anyone asking about the obvious powers of a woman seeks to control the issue. This is a very masculine thing to do...force the issue into a nice neat little package that a man can understand, and then control. Sorry to be harsh, but men seem to have no problem asserting themselves on either side of the issue, and they don't belong. Look at it this way...women aren't the ones committing the violent crimes, the rapes and murders, the chiuld abuse, etc...those are overwhelmingly male crimes. So why are any of you concerned about what we are doing with our families? You should be concentrating on yourselves, making sure you use birth control, or pay for the babies that you have made, or adopt, or provide freee childcare, or donate to women's organizations, defend the young girls outside the clinics, take them into your homes, provide counseling or a warm meal, tell your brothers to respect women and themsleves by also doing these things. but no, instead, you all want to sit around and debate each other on the issues that don't concern you. I appreciate the sentiment, but seriously, if you want to do some good, stop treating it outside of yourself, and make it a 'man's issue' where you can. No matter which side of the 'debate' you are on. It's just so easy for you to hypothesize the issue, since it doesn't 'concern' you directly...well, it should. End of rant. ;)

Pro-Lifers seek to protect the rights of the unborn. If some people feel that it tramples the "right to privacy" of women, it is not meant to be that. In my opinion, the "right to privacy" is a smokescreen for the real objective of the abortion supporters; to punish men and children for thousands of years of oppression of women, whether true or perceived. Dead babies are just "collateral damage" in the maniacal mindset that seeks to "empower" women in a sick and vengeful way. It seeks to take the unique power that women have to nurture unborn babies and give birth and wield it as a sword to cut deep and make a point millions of times over. It is NOT my belief that most women who have abortions are part of this mindset. However, I do think that they have been brainwashed for 30 years now by people who have this agenda. It has been accomplished by consistently chanting the mantra "my body, my choice" that has successfully dehumanized the unborn and taken rights away from fathers.

Truly, I view the abortion industry and the feminists who support it as OBSTACLES to the empowerment of women. Think about it; they seek to suppress and invalidate the maternal instincts of women by indoctrinating them with the idea that children and marriage are a "ball and chain that prevent them from succeeding in life". Then, when women come back and complain that they were lied to, used, robbed of their motherhood and their money, and given wrong and incomplete information about abortion, and that they are suffering terribly with guilt and torment years later that causes incredible disfunction, (called Post Abortion Stress Syndrome or PAS in the pro-life community), all feminists do is consistently invalidate the testimonials of MILLIONS of women, thousands of whom have testified before Congress under oath about the effects of abortion. How does THAT validate women's right to self-determination and to having an audible voice in the world? Discounting women and their natural and wonderful place in the world in is the hallmark of radical feminism.

So, to answer your question, NO pro-lifers do not seek to oppress women. If anything, it is the other way around.

God bless.

BTW - if men have no say in the debate simply because they haven't got a uterus, then women who have never been in the position of having an unplanned pregnancy have no right to speak, either. I had an abortion in 1989 and it is truly the worst thing that I have ever done. I dare one woman who has never had an unplanned pregnancy or who has never had an abortion to tell ME ANYTHING about abortion. They know NOTHING about what it does to children, to mothers, to fathers, and to families. NOTHING.

I dont have any agenda to opress women. I just think that the choice whether or not to create another life is made when having sex. I dont think its right to kill something because it may inconvenience you.

CYNICAL: That is like saying that Making it illegal to murder somebody will only result in illegal murders. Its not possible to eliminate murder either, does that mean we should make it legal. Do you really think that if abortions were illegal, there wouldnt be a decrease in the number of abortions?

Actually, pro-lifers defend not only the unborn but their mothers.

There are more pro-life crisis pregnancy centers then there are abortion clinics.

Right to Life people pour money and time into helping them both.

The Pro-"Choice" side gives them a dead baby.

Opress women.

If they were so interested in caring for the unborn, then why don't they do anything for the children that ARE born to families who can't support or abandon & abuse them?

PRO-LIFERS ARE TRYING TO PROTECT THE UNBORN WHO HAVE NO RIGHTS THANKS TO THE COURTS. IF WOMEN WANT TO BE OPPRESSED THEY CAN ALWAYS MOVE TO THE MIDDLE EAST.
