I lost my photo's and my music the first time my son gave me this computer with an expensive update on it. What could have happened? I only had the computer less than an hour and boom, they were not on the desk top or in files and folders. What can I do to try to get them back?

The easiest mistake to make is to forget where you stored them. Or forget to name them.Go to Start. Left click. this will open your files and folders, and all other programs, if you remember where or if you stored them that is easy enough. Right click and then open the file. It will probably be in files or forlders, or my photos, or my pictures. I don't know what program you are using. If you don't locate them there start opening each program left click to open the program Then double left cik to open the contents.Hopefully you named them, If not you will have to search for them. If they have been saved and If you didn't name them and you still saved them the computer would have stored them with a document signature. It will say so. You may not realize what the document is. The only way to find out what that file or folder is, is to right click and then open. It will tell you what's in there. If for some reason or by accident you sent them to the recycle bin, you usually have roughly 30 days before they are deleted. If you accidentally deleted them they will still be on your hard drive unless it has been replaced. You don't even want to try to retrieve it from your hard drive! Unless it is worth tons of money, Govt secrets or could get you killed! That is a very expensive process. I have to tell you there are a hundred different ways to recapture information that is lost to YOU, this is just one way and for me it seems to be the most simple. The point is you just have to find the way that you can understand and do it that way every time when you go looking. Everyone has there own way of doing it. The point is get nosey. If you have someone close to you that you trust and can help you if you screw up. Check out everything, go everywhere. That is the best teacher of all. LOL
Been there done that!!!!

Was the hard drive replaced? If so, you need to grab them off the old drive.
