the pilgrims needed help the wampanoag help them so they celebrated for all the things they learned that was the first thanksgiving

It was the Pilgrims who was celebrating the fact that they took over the Wampanoag land.

The first Thanksgiving was in the spring. They were cellibrating the fact that they survived the winter. Later they cellibrated the harvest in the fall which would allow them to survive another winter.

For the most part they were giving thanks that they had survived all they had been thru. (Check out the history lesson. They went thru a lot just to get the boat together to come here!) They were also giving thanks that God had brought them to a place they could be free to worship as they choose. On top of that thay were giving thanks for the bounty of what they had.
