I have been several times before, and I will be gambling most of the time... What are some other things to do for fun (non standard stuff) - I am staying in downtown.

You should know that the Carnaval in the Sky at the Rio (free show) will be Christmas themed this month, so that's worth seeing. At the 4 Queens there is now a ticket discounter where you can pick up same-day specials on shows, so you might see if something appeals to you there. I can recommend Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill at Harrah's, if you like country music. It has a good band that plays danceable country hits, and the place is lively. Or you might check out the rides at Luxor: they're very good simulated speed rides.

go out of vegas for a day go skiing or hiking or kayaking or something relaxing (possibly before you gamble, these things arnt cheap)

ATV rides in the Valley of fire Desert (about 1 hr away) excellent time!
