I am really asking. The impulse to hit the button reminds me of the impulse to drink or smoke. It gives me the same feeling of total, almost vertiginous surrender. The feeling is so pleasant that it alters my behaviour, it seems.

I'd say almost. It is totally addictive. And it keeps you in that wonderful altered state of consciousness between being asleep and awake. Don't you wish you could just stay in that state, like for a whole day, sometimes? Bliss.... But I don't think you go through withdrawal when you cut off the snooze. Not that I want to find out.....

ha, ha. i see your point..its' very addictive to turn it off in the morning. Like Pavlov's dog....don't think it "clinically qualifies as a narcotic, as it is not made up of the same pharmacological components, buts its addictive like cracking your knuckles, etc

Nope, not a narcotic. So you can just keep on hitting that button!
