I think that anyone can believe in the spirit (myth, legend) of Santa---the main thing he is known for is his love of children and spreading joy at Christmas. He is not known for creating the Universe, nor do you have to follow any creed or set of rules (other than being "good") to benefit from believing in him. If you don't believe in Santa, no one will condemn you or throw eggs at your house, nor will anyone sit in judgment on YOU one way or the other.

What do you mean... both don't exist?
There's no proof of either.. I actually had a big debate with my significant other about whether we should lie to our daughter about Santa Claus as I didn't feel comfortable doing so, just as I don't feel comfortable telling her to blindly believe in God.. so I'll let her make up her mind on religion when she's old enough to do so, just as my parents did when I was a kid (my parents were catholic/anglican).

I'm still little confused about your question, are you saying why don't we question the existance of Santa as much as we question the existance of God? Because I think everyone knows Santa doesn't exist, so why would we be questioning it?
