Both males and females have "adam's apples"---it's the larynx. But under the influence of male sexual hormones, it enlarges and becomes more prominent in the adult male. This is typically why males have deeper voices.
Many transgendered folk (MtoF) decide to have plastic surgery to "shave" it down a bit, to make it less noticeable---but good clothing can hide a lot.

both men and women have an adams-apple its just that in men its more prominent. and there is a procedure called a tracheal shave that lessens its prominence. and if she has an operation to change gender then dont caller her a "he".
poohb2878 : estrogen does not alter the voice in anyway. the only hormone that affects the voice is testosterone in a FtoM transsexual. a MtoF transsexual must retrain their voice to sound more feminine

Its not true that only men have Adam's apples but they do tend to only much more prominent on men than women.
But when they get the surgery they will get one that shaves down the Adam's apple making it less noticeable. I also believe that the hormone treatments they are on lessens it some.

The adam's apple is part of the larynx (voicebox). It's pronounced in men because they have deeper voices. When a person goes through a sex-change operation they also take hormones. So, a Male-to-Female (M2F) transsexual will take enough estrogen where the voice literally changes toa higher pitch. This in turn also makes the larynx shrink.

There are women who have adam's apples, and men who don't have prominent ones. I assume that they'd either leave it alone or surgically alter it to make it less noticeable.

It's a lump of cartilage - not all men have a prominent one, and some women do have one. It can be shaved down if a person desires a smaller one, via plastic surgery.

I believe that both men and women have them, but mens become more pronounced during puberty due to testosterone. I doubt that it would be removed.
