Cayo Coco is a beauty but if you want to be closer to a city and go on a daily tour then Cayo Coco wont fascinate you. You should try Varadero if that's what you're looking for.

If you are a first time visitor to Cuba then I would pick "Breezes Jibacoa". Its half way between Varadero and Havana...about an hour or less either way. The resort is very nice....and has good food, entertainment and great snorkleing. They have a couple of good "free" walking tours, moped rentals, and Havana and Varadero tours, etc. Its a fun, relaxing resort. I have been there twice for a total of 4 weeks. If you want to be busy and do something all of the time then pick Varadero...you can still go on a tour to Havana from there. ( Do the jeep tour..it's great) Blau Varadero is a new hotel, very nice and clean, just not super tropical. But it's worth the money. Have a great trip.

I've never been there, but I've heard that Havana is very nice. In terms of beaches, Varadero has some of the best, as does Holguin and Cayo Coco. Also, visit Pinar del Rio.

I have never been, but some people I know have been and they say that west Cuba is the best for water activities, diving and snorkeling. They said that the spearfishing is awesome. It was the most relaxing there as well. If the communist dictatorship ever falls you will see a huge boom in travel to cuba as well as a huge increase in property prices.
