Nope not at all. Unless she is only 18" LOL

My daughter is very normal on the charts and she was 10lbs at 1 month also (7lbs at birth and 11.5 lbs at 2 months)

LOTS of babies are born 10lbs!!

WOW...I was reading some of the other responses...some of them are so HARSH. Don't take what complete strangers say to heart :)

I dont think she is either. My son was 8lbs 11oz when he was born and by 1 month he was easily 10bls if not more. Maybe you might want to consider changing pediatricians and at least so you can get a second opinion.

To megan11034: You obviously arent a parent because then you'd probably know that doctors are human and they can be wrong - or they are stating their opinion but it doesnt mean the child is unhealthy. I once had a doctor tell me my daughter (who had a horrible rash) had flea bites (we didnt even own an animal or live in area where fleas were a problem). I knew he was wrong so I went for another opinion and it turned out she had HSP - very low platlet count and slight liver damage.

My cousin had a baby boy less than a month ago that weighed 10 pounds 6 ounces at birth!! Now that is big for his age!! If your child was not over weight at birth and hasn't more than doubled in weight since birth, I wouldn't worry. Doctors don't know everything and the doc dosent know your family or that your uncle ernie weighed 700 pounds. Not that you have an uncle ernie but you get the point.

My son was 10 pound, 14 ounces when born, and went down to about 10 pounds 2 at one month old before resuming upward weight gain. 10 pounds at one month is a big baby, but not unheard of. My son is now 3 and 1/2 and he is taller that most kindergartners, so maybe you simply have a child-of-unusual size like I do. He has consitently been above the 99th percentile for height and about the 90th percentile for weight his whole life. His younger brother was also 10 pounds, 14 ounces when born, but he is only 90th percentile in height and 90th percentile in weight.

A variety of charts for comparison can be found here: http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/general/body/growth_charts.html

Unless your baby is truly disproportionately obese, I wouldn't worry about having a big baby too much.

You need a second opinion. Doctors are human; they make mistakes (in judgment, too). 10 lbs. is not too big for a one-month-old baby. Most babies are out of the newborn diapers that only go to 10 lbs. by about the 2nd week of life. I wouldn't stay with a pediatrician that made these kinds of statements. Everyone's size is relative to their bone structure, their genes, their frame, etc. My babies were all off the charts, but their father is 6'5", so for them that was normal.

Thats not that bad. My daughter was only 6 pounds when she was born and she was really tiny. But shes 18 pounds now at 9 months. It all depends on the baby. But there have been way bigger babies before.

I dont think your child is over weight either. For a 1 month old baby i think 10 pounds is normal. Perhaps you should get the opinion of a 2nd doctor.

DONT LISTEN TO SOME OF THESE DUMB *** PEOPLE. it depends on how much your baby weighed at birth, if your daughter was 8 pounds when she was born then I would say that is fine, just as long as she isn't having a huge weight jump each and every month. DON'T STRESS ABOUT IT AND DON'T LISTEN TO NEGATIVE REMARKS FROM IGNORANT PEOPLE THEY ARE JUST INSECURE BITTER OLD HAGS WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH THEIR TIME BUT MAKE OTHERS FEEL BAD. keep on doing what you are doing I am sure everything is fine.

You need a new doctor. Babies do not become obese unless they have a serious medical problem, you can not force a baby to overeat nor will they do so on their own.

If you doctor is seriously concerned (and I can't tell you if there is any reason or not without knowing her birth weight) then he should have sent her off for many tests.

Otherwise he is just a jack@$$

First off...find a new doctor!
Second off my daughter wasn't big at birth so I cannot compare to her but me..when I was born I was 9lbs 7oz and by 1 month I was 11lbs.....I am now 19 healthy, not overweight, no eating disorders...NOTHING
Don't listen to what that jerk has to say, your baby is healthy and if she seems happy and healthy then you are doing a great job
