In a Christmas cost cutting effort, I cut down a nice pine tree from my town green late last night. Now today there are little chipmunks in my house and some kind of weird moths scattering all over the place. I think some of the chipmunks even got in the walls!!! Is this something city hall is responsible for? The extermination costs?

If you cut the tree late last night then I assume that you did not have permission and even if you did the city is probably not responsible once you take the tree off of their property.

Do you really want to make somone responsible for something you got free. I assume you had the right to cut it down. However if you didn't, I wouldn't try to hold them responsible for a stolen tree's critters or you might end up paying them for the tree and spending Christmas in the local lock-up.

I still assume they made it avaiable, however.

If they did make these available for folks, I think that is a nice gesture on the city's part, not something to hold them responsible for. You selected the tree, you did the cutting.

You might ask nicely if the local animal control might help you get rid of them, but I think if they do it will be out of kindness and not obligation. If you did illegally confiscate the said tree, do not do this, though.

If they don't, get some DECon for rats or some other Verminicide and kill them.

When we bring natural products into our homes, we take risks.

Someone offers you a plant, you accept it, turns out you are allergic, you don't sue them or make them pay for your Doctor, you just get rid of the plant.

You get a free dog at a SPCA it pees on your new carpets, which usually happens, you can't sue them.

Products of nature are just that and there is baggage with any living or formerly living thing.

Merry Christmas and Good luck with your chipmunk extermination.

no... were you supposed to cut down that tree? the city could sue you for property damage & theft... i dont know what a "town green" is but it sounds like community property - meaning, you didn't have the right to even take the tree.

is this a joke?

Yes, call and complain to the city. I'm sure they're waiting to find out who illegally took their tree, so they can prosecute you properly for theft.

Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?

Ya, sue the bastards. I hope you didn't get any blisters while chopping the tree.....if you did, sue them for pain and suffering too.
