NPR is not a credible source. Why do you even listen to them?
Your question should have been "what are they smoking?" Probably pot, crack & anything else they can get their hands on.

Any of you have a clue about anything? First off, NPR, stands for "Not Privy to Reality". Second, Former Sen. Daschle has nothing to do with who is Jo0hnson's replacement. Third, Governor of SD is a Republican and you can bet it will be a cold day in hell when he appoints another Liberal to succeed Johnson. Former Senator Daschle is still trying to find his way home from when he was tossed out 4 years ago.

Yes, however he is currently at George Washington University's hospital in recovery and doing fine. Deschle will not need to apoint anyone.
