This person always asks for a car ride back home with me...problem is this person lives about an hour away from my house...my brother picks me up on his way and gets reaally tired by the time we get home. He does NOT want to drive another hour out of his way. Obviously one can notice this. However, it is like it is expected of us. I hinted and hinted but it's the same: Can you take me all the way? What the hell do I say??
Oh and of course, my brother never sees any contribution money for gas. Also, this person's friends come along too sometimes...car is packed and everything.

However, if this person carpooled with us (it was on the way or like no more than 20 minutes away); It wouldn't be a problem. That's carpooling. Wouldn't expect money or anything. Mooching I believe is having to drive someone an hour away. Oh and my brother was a bit annoyed and told me to tell this person. Anyways, just ranting..

Get in the car, lock the doors and drive away quick - it's a moocher.

Anyway, it's your brothers' car, so he should be saying yes or no to the ride. If its too much he should just say no.

And are YOU helping out with gas money?

Been there and done that!!

Ok. you are going to have to establish some rules and this person is going to have to abide by them or he doesn't ride.

This first of all means establishing whether or not you want to continue being used as a taxi. If you are over this hurdle, then there must be a $ figure for every trip or weekly or monthly or however you work it out.

If he doesn't want to follow the guidelines and pay up, then, leave his butt to figure out the best way to get there.

Your brother's car, gas, wear & tear, insurance, upkeep.

Wipe the "sucker" label off both your foreheads and be the masters of your lives!!!

Your brother has been kind long enough. He is being taken advantage of, and it's time for it to stop. Don't hint anymore, but simply say that that person will have to find another way home.

Just tell him/her that because of the extra time and distance you need to charge $50/person each way for gas and wear and tear on the car. It's not unreasonable and they'll soon find other transportaion.

Its hard to tell whether he's a moocher or you and your brother are chumps.

So...when the lines get blurred and people start seeing you and your brother in THAT light just what do you think you SHOULD do?
