Don't approach him as though you are asking, just talk to him about it. Find a way to have a conversation about something in the news about drugs and see how he reacts. If he looks happy...he's probably on drugs!

A lot of things can make you suspect drugs. If his eyes are blood shot, dark under them, seem squinted, or pupil changes in dilation. Since you most likely do his landry you can also check his pockets for lighters or matches or things you think seem abnormal. Also smell his clothes, most drugs taken now have distinct odors you can reconize. If he is really protective over you being in his room, he may be hiding something in there. Wait until he's out with some friends and just have a look around. If his grades are dropping or he is seeming more rebelious, he could be going through depression. Don't make any false assumptions. You can't be afraid to ask, you have to remember, your the parent. It's your responsibility to establish communication with your son no matter what it takes. I wish you luck with everything.

Ask him about it, that should be something you should always be asking, regardless. Most likely he will lie to you, he doesn't think you really suspect him. A week or two later, buy one of those home drug tests. You don't have to tell him what it is, make up a lie if you have to. Also, if he really refuses, talk to the school. If they suspect drug use, he has to get a urinalysis by law. They might be able to work something out with you.
If he is using drugs, please take the proper steps. He might even need rehab.

I am not sure where you can get it but I saw a piece on TV about a kit that you can get. Basically you go around your kids room and do rubbings on a swab then you send it in for analysis. Of course you would rub it on things like clothing, cel phones, ipods or anything that they are in contact with on a day to day basis.

htey sell drug test at like walgreens and CVS...they are like 15-30 dollars depending on which one you get...tell him its a test to make sure he is getting enough calcium or something like that...don't be afraid to lie...and if you are just say i want to find out something and if he asks "what" then try to explain to him its a drug test and its to find out if any drugs are in his system...if he refuses than I would suspect something...
Hope this works!

First off, you can't be afraid. Second ask him up front and if you still have doubts, take him for a urinalysis. Usually the fear of that will have him fess up the truth.

You should ask lots of questions, about his friends, where he goes, what he does, and gauge his verbal and nonverbal answers. if he says he is not doing drugs, and you dont beleive him, there are inexpensive home tests available at cvs or walgreens that can tell you conclusively. observe his behavior-are his eyes glazed, pupils dilated..is he coming home later than usual..is he secretive...these are all signs...good luck..

Just ask him and try to show him how it is wrong. If you don't want to ask, then you will just have to wait until you find it in his room or something. But if you ask him without going through his stuff, he might recieve your worries better than just rebeling. Good Luck.

Pluck a piece of hair from his head and take it to the Lab!
Cheaper Method:
Buy a mouth swab drug testing kit and swab him while he's sleeping (or awake).
