Yes, it is quite possible. There are more than one reason this can happen, but the most likely cause is hyperprolactinemia. This is a condition where the pituitary is producing too much of the milk-production hormone "prolactin." Generally, this is a benign condition that can be easily controlled with a pill containing bromocriptine taken every day. However, the cause of the pituitary activity needs to be evaluated and other less common, but more dangerous, causes for the milk production ruled out. So, see your doctor for a work-up.

Yes it is very possible. A lot of people are saying "brain tumor" or hormonal changes, which are all possible, but I haven't seen anyone mention the possibility of medications. Some medications have properties that can increase the prolactin levels, therefore increase the possibility for breast milk when a women is not pregnant. Medications that block dopamine can increase the prolactin level because dopamine inhibits the production of prolactin.

Just a thought.

It is possible and more likely if you have allready had children.

Different things can cause it. A hormone disruption or imbalance is teh most common and can be determined by a simple blood test.

It can also be caused by a tumour wich can be diagnosed voa head xray

Another thing is if you have had kids before it can be triggered my stimuli such as if your SO is sucking or rubbing the nipple area or if you are thinking you may be PG or spending a large amout of time around infants.

Yes! Wet nurses were a commone practice at one time. The female breast will lactate from the stimuli of a suckeling infant. Very normal and unknown in modern times because the practice has been abandoned over the industrial age.

Yes, but make an appointment with your family doctor, internist or OB-GYN as soon possible. It may be nothing but an imbalance in hormone levels or it could be a problem with the ducts in your breast - better safe than sorry.

yes - a woman who has previously given birth can still lactate. If a woman who has never had a child is lactating - she needs to see a dr. cause soemthing is wrong.

BTW - when I was born, I had small amounts of milk in my breasts. a result of my mothers hormones.

Have you birthed a child at all? Yes, you can have secretions coming out of your nipples. It does not usually turn to milk until you have been pregnant at least once. It counts even if there was a miscarry. Hormones can do it too.
