"The Greatest Show On Earth" by Cecil B. DeMille. Mr. DeMille died that year, and in a show of sympathy the Academy gave him the Oscar nod, although the picture did NOT warrant it. The best picture doesn't always win at the Academy Awards - sometimes its just "politics", pure and simple. Of course, if I ever win its because it really was the best picture! ;)

NACHO LIBRE was the biggest waste of 7 dollars....
CATCH A FIRE was a really boring movie, were the only teenagers in the theater!
MASTER IN COMMANDER made absolutely no sense to me
LORD OF WAR seemed like a documentary, enough said...
THE INTERPRETER looked good but i shut it off after 45 minutes because i almost fell asleep

Braveheart.
Gibson gets the violence right, but it's all ham-handed little boy playing big boy crap after that. Nothing adult here, no character development. All transparent string-pulling emotional manipulation -- with too much soundtrack to pummel you into feeling what isn't on film -- in place of real drama. All that's wrong with big films (as in "epics") is here.
