Your team doesn't need a fair weather friend anyway. If you can't be a loyal friend in good times, as well as, in bad time there's not a team in the MLB that need you. I have no suggestion for you other than to develop some loyalty or quit watching baseball!!!

Don't switch! Just look for a team in the other league, if you have to. I've been a Mets fan since 1963, and while there has been glory, and quite a few stinkeroos, I've seen a lot of mediocrity over the years. I keep soft spots for teams in similar straits, like the Red Sox and Cubs. And when I moved out to Washington, I got caught up in Sodo Mojo...whereupon the Mariners' glory years vanished somewhere in between Lou Piniella not going for win number 117 and the curse of Jeff Cirillo. (I pity you poor Twins fans. Adding Cirillo to your lineup is like keeping your case to the bitter end on "Deal or No Deal" and finding it holds one penny.) This year looks to be no better, and possibly worse, as there is no pitching to be had. The Mariners might struggle above .500 this year, but forget the playoffs. And yet I still cheer for them.
I have not abandoned my first team, the Yankees, either. Although I wait for them to depart the wilderness that is George Steinbrenner's ownership, there are still memories of Mickey Mantle...
So see who else is in your area and isn't a deadly rival. I mean, there is no way I could become a Texas Rangers fan (personal reasons), but there is nothing wrong with cheering for a second team. It may seem strange for someone to like both the Dodgers (shudder) and the Angels, but there are such fans. Ditto the Cubs and White Sox. And yes, even the Yankees (or the Steinbrenners) and the Mets. If the Cubs are your team, try the Tigers. If the Phillies, maybe Oakland (the Athletics originally came from Philadelphia). In the end, you decide.

The best choice is to stay with the team that you are rooting for already.
If you are looking for a good new team I would pick the Dodgers. They have the best young players and prospects in baseball and were just given the award as the best organization in baseball. Various sporting news stations like espn rated them as having the best offseason this year. Better to jump on the bandwagon now before they get really good and popular. They have potential young stars in guys like Billingsley, Kemp, LaRoche, DeWitt, Kershaw, minor league batting champion Loney, Elbert who was ranked the best minor league lefthander in baseball, and rookie catcher Russell Martin, who some believe will be an All-Star next year. If you look at the official minor league baseball website there is a list of the top 50 prospects in baseball from last year and this year. All of these guys are included. This doesn't include the other rookie of the year candidate last year Andre Either who was considered the A's minor league player of the year. The Dodgers are committed to growing their own superstars so you won't need to worry about your favorite players changing teams like some do, or following a team like New York where they collect high priced mercenaries. The ownership has also shown that they are committed to winning and are willing to spend the money to do so like with the signing of Jason Schmidt. Most importantly, the ownership is committed to having players with good character, which explains their signing of leaders like Nomar, Gonzalez and Pierre. Also guys like Wolf and Lieberthal who they just signed took less money to play for LA because they grew up here and were fans themselves. It's hard to root for a winning team with bad guys. That won't be a problem with the Dodgers.

Take a chance on the Milwaukee Brewers. They've been steadily building a solid team up in Wisconsin. I'm a 'Stros fan, always will be, but I'm afraid that they've blown their chances for a good run over the next few years. The Brewers will be threatening the Cards soon in the NL Central. If you want a winner, go with the Brew Crew.

You sound like you could be a Cubs fan or a Phillies fan. Take heart. If it's either of these two teams, the worm is about to turn. I think both teams will have a decent season next year. If you're not a fan of either now is your time to make the switch!

I am from Seattle, and of course the Mariners give me little to cheer for over the past several years. I am living in the bay area in California, and cannot find a way to change my allegiance to the Oakland A's. They are a way better team then my Mariners, so I boo them! I no longer have a team to cheer for, i have a team to .........boo. I do cheer for the Giants, as they are in a different league than the Mariners, but really, they have little to cheer for. Also, I am not a Barry Bonds fan. I guess like you, I also have little to cheer for. sorry

Become a Yankees fan. The Yankees have won the AL East every year for the last consecutive 9 years. They have won the World Series 26 times, and with the new additions of Andy Pettitte and Kei Igawa, they are sure to rise back to the top and win the Series next year.

Don't! Bottom line.
I root for a team that brakes my heart, The Red Sox. You have to stay with them because one day they wont. They will come through and it will be the best thing ever. It was incredible when the Sox won in 2004. No team is going to win every time, to be a true fan you have to be with them in their ups and downs with good and not so good players.

I think you should cheer for the Oakland A's. There a team that is exciting, helps the community a whole lot, and is competitive year in and year out. Also, many of their star players are younger. The team is a good to team to root for because they're competitive every year and they have a good organization from top to bottom.

Texas Rangers. They are the Chicago Cubs of the American League without 100 years of history. Guaranteed, they will break your heart every time. I'm a tried and true fan. The team will always stink, but you will get to enjoy a cast of characters including swinging Sammy Sosa, Nolan Ryan, Alphonso Soriano, Jose Canseco, etc.
