i met (sort of, i was so wasted at the time i don't remember him at the party) my husband in Jan 2003. He was dating a friend of mine. I saw him again Jan 2004 at a dinner a mutual friend arranged. I dated a guy from that same dinner (who was his friend) for a year. Then one drunken night in Feb 2005 i woke up in his bed. i haven't left since. We are now married with a baby on the way.

My wife and I dated for about a year and a half. We broke up for about 3 months in the middle of that time, largely because she had gone to a different school and the long distance thing was a problem. We then lived together for a year before we were married.

It depends. All couples are different. You need to date until you are totally comfortable with each other and each others families and friends. This could be a few months or a year. My husband and I dated for a year and then we were engaged for a little over a year. I don't think anyone should be engaged for longer than a year. The engagement is only meant to be as long as it takes to make the wedding plans. The important thing is that you know each other inside and out and are comfortable with each other in every way.

We met about 14 months ago and have been dating 11 months. We got engaged a couple of months ago. If I were to do it again, I would have waited until about the year and a half mark before proposing. We are both 30 years old, so we thought we had the experience to know what we wanted without taking a LOT of time. I wish we'd have taken a little more. Take your time and don't rush!! Make sure!!
