From what I read he will still be a senator but he won't be able to vote. So the Senate will be divided 50-49 and when Dick "Shotgun" Cheney votes it will make an exact 50-50 tie if everyone votes along party lines.

So then what happens? Congress can't spend any of our money? The troops have to come home from Iraq? We have an enormous surplus and our taxes are cut dramatically? We all save a lot of money and the economy grows enormously?

I'm rooting for 2 years of coma, then maybe he gets re-elected and we have 6 more years of Washington gridlock-induced prosperity.

I have just read the first answers and I stand corrected. "Shotgun" Cheney can only vote to break a tie not to make a tie. So the Democrats will be able to spend our money like drunken sailors, 50-49.

That is until we find another Democratic senator with a Republican governor and zap him with our brain vein twister ray gun.

Cheney only gets a vote if the Senate ties.

As long as he doesn't resign, he remains in office. If he resigns, all hell breaks loose in Washington because the governor of South Dakota is a Republican and would no doubt appoint a Republican. That would make a 50-50 tie. As long as he doesn't resign, the Democrats retain control, so he can stay in that coma for two more years and the Dems don't lose control.

Deadeye Dick could only vote to break a tie, not to make one.
