I am moving my family (my son, mother, and myself) away from the city we live in. Right now there is a growing problem between hispanics, pacific islanders, and whites. There is alot of drugs, prostitution, and violence in our area. No we do not live in California or Nevada. I live in Utah and want to get out of dodge. I was thinking about moving to the south or mid-atlantic area. I am finishing up my education and will most likly not have any problems with employment but want to provide a better living situtation for my son. His elementary school is 80% hispanic (spanish speaking only) and the high school is 70% hispanic. I know there are alot of problems between the cultures in these schools. I do not want to sound biased but is the problem the same between African American students and White students still? If a school is 80% African American will I be looking at the same problems I have now with him? And, yes, I do know that problems are everywhere.

Some of his problems have included being beaten up because he is white, because he doesn't speak spanish, he came home with crack, pot, and something else I didn't know what it was. He is only 5 years old and when I complained to the school and his teacher (also hispanic), I was told that we should just move, or learn spanish. I was also told that we don't get involved in the kids affairs. I have to get him out of this situtation. I really like small towns and am really thinking about Georgia. Is it the same there?

Georgia sounds great! I'm a Georgian. Don't try Atlanta. It's the same as your part of Utah. However, Georgia has excellent mid-size cities to choose from.
I don't know what your education is, but job opportunities are rife!
Did you hear KIA is building a plant in West Point, Georgia? That's on the GA-AL line at mid-state.
I hope you are not making this a relocation-solution for the wrong reasons. Family can be a big factor in a move.
Georgia is a long way from Utah.

Your 5 year old came home with crack, pot and other stuff and you didn't blow a gasket. I would be calling the Secretary of Education, the Principal, the School Board, the Governors office, the local TV, radio etc. I would not move...I would get mad. This is moronic that you would have to feel fearful of your child going to school in a situation like this.

It isn't the race of the peope you put your child with...it is the community- where in tarnation are you living? There are many good and descent people of all races in the US. I feel that rather you live in a bad community and for that reason for all means...move.
