Do you realize that for instance, in Socialist Canada, that workers pay 55% of their paychecks for health care that they can't even count on? How would you like to kiss away 55% of your paycheck?

Government paid health care is far from free. You are right we pay for it big time in Canada in the form of higher income and corporate taxes, not mention higher sales taxes. Their is an added cost hidden in those taxes as businesses are less likely to operate here because of them.

Another huge cost we pay in Canada is lesser quality health care.

Any and all Americans reading this. Don't listen to the Democrat's lies about socialized medicare. YOU DON'T WANT IT. unless of course you are really poor and see no hope of ever climbing out of your poverty-ridden status, then you probably like the notion of socalism, in all it's forms.

Canada's healthcare system is an economic disaster.

Few Canadians have much disposable income because they're taxed to death.

Wait times are very long in Canada for most procedures: average is 17-18 weeks. In some provinces, it's around 22-23 weeks.

Imagine paying for services in advance and being told you have to wait for 4-6 months.

And that is just a tip of the iceberg.

This is the part the socialized medicine crowd wants you to ignore. They play up the health care for all angle and make it sound as though the government is going to foot the bill. Problem is government does not have any money. The government does not generate revenue unless it takes from the citizens in the form of taxes. I am sure you will get plenty of posts telling you how wrong you are, but you have nailed the issue. There are solutions which can be explored, but there is no such thing as a free ride. Somewhere, someone is footing the bill.

I realize that people pay more for government health care. And I also realize that it's not necessarily a perfect situation in other countries. Therefore, we need to extensively research our options on this matter.

However, health care in this country is dismal. People from both parties agree on that, from my experience. Something's gotta give. If we don't have government health care, how do we solve these problems? You keep saying no free lunch, etc. That's great. But that doesn't help the people whose companies no longer offer insurance, the self employed people with riders and preexisting conditions, the people (like me) whose companies elected to suddenly make their coverage horrible so that the company wouldn't have to increase the amount of money they spend.

If you, Jade, have a better idea to take care of this, please, let us know. I am so open to suggestion. Make me a believer in something else.

That is exactly why the best physicians are here in the states. So they can get a real pay check! (Only problem here is that they have to pay sky-high malpractice insurance premiums because of the sue-happy people who don't want to work for a living.)
We really need to make tort reform a political issue in 2008. It is the only way to get healthcare costs down. The majority of doctors don't like to charge ridiculous fees. Reforms do not have to forbid lawsuits in legitimate cases of malpractice. But good reform measures would prevent $65million lawsuits when a much, much lower amount would suffice.

Got any links to trustworthy articles that back up that 55% of a paycheck goes for health care?

I already kiss away a fat portion of my paycheck to pay for emergency room care for illegals and poor people. I pay for my own health care and I want it to stay that way. I get the best care money can buy. To hell with the government running it. They cant even run the department of motor vehicles, why would I want them deciding my health care?

I wouldn't,BUT,If all of our elected officials, whose salary AND health care is paid with OUR tax dollars, why isn't the American public entitled to the same benefits??If it wouyld be too expensive, which I'm sure it would, then I think that our elected officials should be paying for their own health care, especially considering what they make.....

Better than having a majority of people have no health care at all.
