For me, I feel that dreams are attainable goals that a person strives for. These are things that you would be willing to work for, and once you got them, you would feel a sense of satisfaction and glee that you have finally finished what you sought out to do.
A fantasy is something that causes pleasant feelings without attaining or even working for it. With a fantasy, if you seek it out, most likely it won’t be as you imagined it, and would ruin the entire thing. A fantasy is a fantasy because it is EXACTLY what you wanted and imagined without differential. In the real world, however, nothing seems to orbit around me, lol.
The hardest part is separating what is a dream and what is fantasy….there lies the true challenge. How do you separate the two?

i think it depends on your perspective. Some people think one is attainable and the other is not. I think it depends on the dream or fantasy, too. I mean, flying to the moon might be a fantasy, with a .0000001% chance of happening for a certain person. But a manage a twois, also a fantasy for many, is more likely to happen than flying to the moon. where do you draw the line?
so i guess i'd say, if you're someone who chases dreams, go after the fantasy too. if you don't chase anything, don't chase either! nice question!

Because a fantasy is "imagination unrestricted by reality; 'a schoolgirl fantasy'" (http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn), where as a dream is generally based in reality, and you won't work yourself to death chasing one (ambition: a cherished desire; "his ambition is to own his own business").
For example, chasing a will'o'wisp with the intent to catch it will get you nowhere, and you can fantasize all you want about catching one, but it will never happen (because it is always a set distance in front of you), but if you dreamed about starting a company that produces harnesses that hold carrots in front of horses' noses, to motivate them forwards, and you started planning for that, it wold be a dream, and acceptable to chase. It would be acceptable to chase because it is attainable.
So, in short, that piece of advice is so that you don't work yourself to death trying to chase something impossible. The hard part is figuring out what is possible. Isn't everything?

You should chase both! Fantasies and dreams are both things that are potentially possible, nearly impossible, right? Well, if you want it, go get it. The best reward comes from hard work, right?

That's quite the oversimplification there.
Dreams are okay to chase if they involve improving yourself or not feeling guilty for ordering a Big Mac. Dreams are NOT okay to chase if your "dream" is someone in the office and you're stalking/sexually harassing her.
Fantasies are not okay to chase if they involve dangerous or destructive behavior. Fantasies ARE okay to chase if they involve imagining what you would do with that 29 million from the lottery.
Nice hat, Dude.

Because Dreams are more enduring and Fantasies are fleeting.
Or maybe dreams come to us, and fantasies are prone to being chased.
Maybe because you can have many many fantasies but only a few dreams...
maybe because fantasies often involve our privates, and dreams usually involve our hearts... What ever. chase anything you want to run away from you.

Dreams are okay to chase because...
They're real life situations.. As in, "I'd like to be a judge when I'm older," for instance. It's a thing that you can really achieve, more or less.
Fantasies are NOt okay to chase because...
They're more of a non-reality wish. As in, "I'm going to be a NBA player when I'm older," because chances are.. you won't.

by definition a dream is a strongly desired goal or purpose.
Whereas a fantasy is the power or process of creating especially unrealistic or improbable mental images in response to psychological need.
So dreams are more realistic then fantasies.

I believe it's because dreams can actually come true....while fantasies are just that, they're Fantastic thoughts and images that people create in their minds...and they could possibly and eventually happen at times, but it's not very probable.
