This is a business credit card and we provided our business Federal ID number. American Express refused to process the application until we gave them our personal SS #'s including those who would be carrrying the additonal cards.

You never have to give your SS# to someone, but that someone can refuse to do business with you unless you give it to them. In that case, it's your choice to give them the # in order to do business or not. They are not obligated to give you a credit card without a social security number from someone.

Yes.

They do that to ensure that those carrying/using the card are actual people authorized to possess a credit card. Otherwise one could just put any name on a card - even one for their kid of 2 - and use it to their heart's content, as well as avoid the payment.

DO YOU THINK THAT THEY GIVE CARDS TO A BUSINESS WITH OUT HAVING A PERSON TO HOLD RESPONSIBLE. SUPPOSE YOU RUN SOME TYPE OF SCAM. YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO GIVE YOUR SS NUMBER FOR ANY TYPE OF CREDIT CARD BUSINESS OR PERSONAL. AND ALL CARD HOLDERS MUST NOW GIVE UP THEIR SS NUMBER. NO MORE FREE RIDES YOU CAN THANK THE EXTREMIST FOR THAT.
